Bursaries

Humber is dedicated to providing you with a number of bursaries to successfully pursue your education while managing your finances. Bursaries are available for Certificate, Diploma, and Degree programs. Bursaries are primarily awarded based on financial need, although academic excellence, extracurricular activities, and community involvement may all be considered.

For Fall, Humber bursary funding will be available on September 1 if you have completed your full time registration. You can see the bursary on MyHumber at the ‘Account Detail for Term / Humber College Receipt ’ tab.

If you receive a bursary and withdraw before the refund deadline the refund will be processed after the tenth day of class. The bursary will be reversed and any remaining funds will be returned minus the non-refundable tuition deposit.

Humber offers several different types of bursaries. Information about each of them is included below:

Tuition Bursaries are non-repayable grants. Humber offers a specified number of bursaries available to new and returning students. Tuition bursaries are awarded in amounts of $500.00, $750.00 or $1000.00, depending on the program of study, to students who can demonstrate financial need. You must be a Canadian resident and registered to attend Humber as a full-time student to be eligible for this bursary.

Apply early! The application deadline dates are:

  • Fall 2017 Admission – August 31, 2017
  • Winter 2018 Admission – December 15, 2017
  • Spring 2018 Admission – April 20, 2018

To apply for a Tuition Bursary, you must complete the Interactive Budget Calculator online (found at http://www.humber.ca/myhumber). Step-by-step instructions can be found here: http://www.humber.ca/myhumber/how-apply-student-aid. This is a secure website that will allow you one chance to submit the Tuition Bursary once you have provided the required financial information, so you need to ensure you submit a well planned budget based on an accurate estimate of your income, savings and expenses for your study period (e.g. Sept 2017 - April 2018).

Please Note: If all Tuition Bursary funds are awarded before the deadline date, there will be no more bursaries available for the year. Once you have submitted the application, no changes can be made and you cannot reapply in the same academic year.

Financial Need Bursaries are available if you have a proven financial need. They are awarded on an individual basis upon consideration of expenses, income, family support, part-time employment opportunities, academic standing, and personal circumstances.

Students who wish to determine if they are eligible for a Financial Aid bursary should see a Financial Aid Advisor.

Student Access Guarantee Bursaries

Student Access Guarantee Bursaries are available to OSAP students only whose tuition is over $4,500 and have an “unmet need” under the OSAP program based on tuition and book costs as identified by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. This is an automatic process and a cheque will be issued to those students who meet the criteria, generally distributed at the start of the second semester. Eligible students will be notified by the Financial Aid office.

Ontario First Generation Bursaries are for students with a proven financial need and who are the first in their families to attend post secondary education. Application is by invitation only (usually in February of each year).
First Generation students are identified by Humber through the HELP Survey and OCAS.

Since 1996, Humber and the Ontario government have teamed up to raise over $1 million for bursaries. The money raised remains at Humber in an endowment fund, and the interest is given to students in financial need.

These bursaries are available to full-time post secondary students who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons as well as an Ontario resident with a demonstrated financial need.

Applications will be available in the Financial Aid office mid-October of each year.

Humber Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning is pleased to offer a Study Abroad / International Mobility Bursary to assist students who are completing an educational experience abroad: academic study, field placement or work term. This bursary will provide eligible students with financial support for an eligible period of academic experience outside of Canada.

Bursary Amount: Based on Length of Educational Experience Abroad

  • 1-4 weeks: $500.00 CAD
  • 4 – 7 weeks: $1,000.00 CAD
  • 8+ weeks: $2,500.00 CAD

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the Study Abroad / International Mobility Bursary, applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled full-time at Humber Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning
  • Be receiving academic recognition in fulfillment of course or program requirements
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Have demonstrated financial need as defined by the Financial Aid Office
  • Have not received a Study Abroad / International Mobility bursary in the current academic year
  • Be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident of Canada or Protected Person

How to Apply

  • Complete the application and budget form
  • Provide a letter about your international opportunity and how you will benefit from it
  • Provide confirmation of your course, field placement, research, or study tour opportunity abroad
    • A signed Learning Agreement (semester or academic summer abroad program)
    • An email or letter from your Placement Advisor (internship/work placement abroad)
    • An email from your faculty trip leader (study tour abroad)

Notes

  • Bursary applications will be reviewed/processed 60 calendar days prior to anticipated travel departure date
  • Bursaries awarded will first be applied toward any outstanding balance on the student’s account
  • Bursaries are awarded by cheque and will be mailed to the local home address on the student’s MyHumber account All bursary recipients will receive a T4A for income tax purposes Please return your completed application form and supporting documentation to the Financial Aid Office at finaid@humber.ca

Application Deadline:

  • March 15, 2018 or until all funds are distributed.
