Design Foundation Building Technology

This preparatory program is an excellent choice if you want to upgrade your portfolio of work before pursuing further education in technical design. Students develop a good understanding of the principles/development of skills fundamental to success while gaining theoretical and practical technology experience. Skilled instructors teach courses covering two-dimensional drawing, three-dimensional drawings, colour, drafting. Upon completion, students will be able to make an informed decision about which discipline is best suited to their skills and interests. Successful completion of this program may provide course credits toward the Architectural and Civil Engineering Technology programs at Humber, and prepares students to meet the admission requirements.

Program Options

Career Opportunities

Industry Demand

In an international survey of salaries in six design categories, Canadian designers earned an average of $48,800 US in 2007, enough to place Canada fifth out of 21 countries. If you have a strong interest in the visual arts and want a career full of creative possibilities, you can begin to lay the groundwork while exploring your options in this program.

Facilities & Equipment

Students use a drawing table and work in a drafting studio. Students must have use of a 35mm digital camera and purchase a design kit for $600 including one required reading text during the program.

Software & Technology

Humber College supplies the software in the computer labs that the students will work with. This software includes AutoCAD and SAP.
