Accessibility & Testing Accommodations

Candidates with disabilities who require special accommodations during an examination are required to self-identify and must contact our office prior to registering, so that proper testing arrangements can be offered in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.

Test accommodations may include:

  • Extended time to complete the examination
  • A reduced distraction environment separate from other Candidates
  • Use of assistive technology such as a computer, readers or voice dictation
  • Environment where the Candidate may move around (e.g. stand and stretch)
  • Use of adaptive technology (e.g. screen-reading software)
  • Alternative desk arrangement
  • Alternative environment (e.g. increased lighting)
  • Admission of food or drink
  • Combinations of the above

All disability-related accommodations must be prescribed and approved in advance. Candidates requesting accommodation are required to submit a current Letter of Support, written on official letterhead and signed by a qualified medical professional:

  • Affirming the existence of the disability; and
  • Stating the specific accommodations required (including the exact amount of additional time).

Documentation and validation may come from a variety of professionals including: physicians, medical specialists, psychologists, psychiatrists, speech/language pathologists, case managers with insurance companies, community agencies, and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board representatives.

Originals, faxed copy, photocopy, or scanned copy of the Letter of Support are acceptable.

Candidates are advised to retain copies of these documents as the request and supporting documentation will NOT be returned.

Proctors are NOT authorized to offer or change accommodations on examination day.

Candidates are required to present their Accommodations Confirmation at examination check-in and follow all other rules and regulations that are associated with their examination.

The purpose of examination accommodations is to provide educational equity, NOT an advantage.

Note: The live virtual online proctored examination option allows Candidates to take advantage of existing accessibility options contained at their own location, as well as the use of familiar assistance technologies.
