Every day, hundreds of newcomers begin a new life in Canada. Canada has developed a broad network of organizations whose mission, in whole or in part, is to serve refugees and immigrants in their process of adjustment to Canadian society. The Settlement Counsellor certificate program familiarizes you with the continuum of the settlement process from acclimatization to adaptation to integration and will prepare you to develop and implement programs and services to help newcomers in the process of settling in Canada. You will receive specialized training to build on and enhance your current skills. Within Toronto alone, there are over 100 agencies which provide settlement services for newcomers.
Graduates can pursue work in positions such as settlement counsellor, employer outreach specialist, job search coach or school-based settlement counsellor. Settlement services workers are employed by government and community agencies.
The courses in this Certificate of Completion are offered on a part-time basis, in a flexible format.
Minimum of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or international equivalent. Alternatively, students over the age of 21 can apply as mature students.
