Production Design 1 will introduce students to the creative process, procedures and communication standards used in developing the physical and digital environments that are key components of storytelling for film and television. Students will develop the skills necessary to research visual styles and to implement research to create presentation materials supporting narrative projects that will be realized through Independent Production, FMTV332. Working in groups, students will generate designs with an emphasis on developing collaborative techniques and critical analysis. Students will also explore a variety of practical skills such as free-hand sketching, an introduction to orthographic drawings, budgeting and legal clearances specific to an art department. Materials generated as assignments for this course will form the basis for an introductory level portfolio for a student pursuing production design as a future career.
