FMTV 356 - Production Design 2 is a continuation of FMTV326 - Production Design 1, with a focus on further developing skills in the creative process and procedures of developing physical and digital environments that aid storytelling in film, television and cross platform media. FMTV 326 projects focus on location based films being produced as 3rd year thesis projects in the Independent Production course. In this course, students will further develop critical thinking, design communication skills and problem solving by realizing a studio based set design to support the Portfolio projects produced as a continuation of the 3rd year Independent Production course. Students will learn basic vocabulary of existing visual and architectural styles and the key elements to identifying them and implement this knowledge through visual research and application to Portfolio projects. Working in teams, students will generate industry standard design presentations, budgets and schedules in preparation of realizing their set designs. Through studio based workshops they will learn basic skills in set construction, scenic painting and set decoration. Students will work in collaborative groups with a focus on problem solving, time management and communication. Emphasis will be placed on portfolio development with the end goal to produce material which can be included in a professional portfolio.
