Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a newly regulated healthcare profession in Ontario. It is a comprehensive body of knowledge that has evolved over 2500 years, that applies TCM theories to diagnoses, treatment and prevention of illness using a variety of TCM methods. This course provides an overview of the philosophical framework and holistic model of the practice. Students will learn the basic TCM principles, how practitioners apply these principles in recognizing the causes behind illness, and how they analyze symptoms to reach a TCM diagnosis and establish treatments plans. Through lectures, case analyses, and classroom presentations, students will learn how TCM is based on traditional use, and scientific advancements, and how acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are integrated into mainstream bioscience in the treatment of illness and maintenance of overall health.
