The World’s Religions

Course Code: HUMA 235

Academic Year: 2024-2025

This course examines the beliefs and practices of Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Indigenous Traditions. In an effort to better understand these living religious traditions, this course will explore each religion's figures and narratives; the histories of their religious traditions and their diversification; their spiritual teachings, ritual practices, and conceptions of life and death; and the relationship between religion and ethics, society, and politics. Students will also be encouraged to think through some of the basic methodological and interpretive issues involved in the academic study of religion, especially those surrounding cultural diversity and evaluative judgment.
