The Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) officially rolled out its Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDIB) Action Plan, named "Building Connections." The launch in September 2024, saw over 200 people come to learn, support and celebrate the path ahead.

So, what’s the plan?

The EDIB Action Plan lays out four areas of focus:

  1. Inclusive Campus Culture and Organizational Leadership
This is where Humber leads by example! From faculty to students, the institution is empowering everyone to champion inclusion through learning, development, systemic change, and adaptive practices. With the support of the Office of EDIB, Humber is building the foundation for an inclusive and thriving community.
  2. Equitable Student Success
Humber is leveling the playing field for all students. The plan addresses systemic barriers, boosts employability skills, and creates more opportunities for underrepresented groups.
  3. EDIB Learning Innovation
Learning gets a glow-up! Expect revamped curricula and resources that prioritize EDIB principles and Universal Design for Learning (UDL). It’s all about creating educational experiences that work for everyone.
  4. Collective Action and Community Engagement
Collaboration is the name of the game. Humber is partnering with external organizations and community leaders to bring fresh perspectives and sustainable relationships to its EDIB work.

Why now?

President and CEO Ann Marie Vaughan puts it best: “Belonging is a fundamental building block of Humber’s vision for 2030 and beyond. It’s a value that must underpin all that we do.”

Dean Yasmin Razack echoes this, emphasizing that collective effort is key: “Our progress relies on shared commitment and ongoing dedication. Together, we can create a space that reflects both innovation and excellence.”

What’s next?

The Office of EDIB will be busy engaging the Humber and University of Guelph-Humber  community, collecting feedback, and keeping everyone updated on the plan’s progress. As Humber works to reimagine higher education, "Building Connections" promises to be a cornerstone of this transformation.
