In Humber’s Industrial Electrician Apprenticeship program, you will learn technical theory and skills in the three levels of in-school training allocated toward your apprenticeship. You will learn to perform a wide range of tasks including lay out, assemble, install, repair, maintain, connect or test electrical fixtures, apparatus, control equipment and wiring for electrical systems; plan installations from blueprints, sketches and specifications and install all electronic devices; systematically diagnose faults in electrical and electronic systems and equipment, and repair or replace electrical and electronic components; measure, cut, thread, bend, assemble and install conduits and other electrical conductor enclosures; splice and terminate electrical conductors; test electrical and electronic equipment for proper function; and program and troubleshoot PLC and fire alarm systems.

Apprenticeships are not available to international applicants.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet all the requirements below in order to meet minimum program eligibility. Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee an offer of admission.     Academic

    This apprenticeship is regulated by the Ontario College of Trades. You and your employer are required to register through your local Apprenticeship Branch Office of the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD).

    You will be scheduled for the in-school portion of training by MLTSD. Apprentices who have been scheduled for the in-school training will be sent an Offer of Classroom Training letter from the MLTSD. For more information, visit ontario.ca/page/start-apprenticeship.

    Mature Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet all listed course requirements.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or attended postsecondary studies, and will be 21 or older as of the first day of classes. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U/M level or equivalent.

    College Transfer Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility. Applicants must have an overall minimum grade point average (GPA) of 65 per cent in the program. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.

    University Transfer Applicants

Additional Costs

$50 - lab fee. There may also be additional fees for personal protective equipment (PPE) and equipment that is required and utilized within the lab.
