Humber’s Practical Nursing diploma program provides the skills and knowledge needed to become a registered practical nurse (RPN).

Curriculum includes both nursing theory and practice, and other topics such as anatomy, physiology, ethics, pharmacotherapeutics, patient safety and leadership concepts.

Humber is the only English speaking college in Ontario with access to an on-campus cadaver lab for nursing students. Combine that with small class sizes, leading-edge simulation labs, bioscience and anatomy labs, and extensive clinical work placement opportunities -- Humber students have the competitive edge.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet all the requirements below in order to meet minimum program eligibility. Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee an offer of admission.   To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent

  or

  • Mature student status

  or

  • College or university transfer status

  and

  Mature Applicants

  Diplomas and Certificates

  An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet all listed course requirements.

  Degrees

  An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or attended postsecondary studies, and will be 21 or older as of the first day of classes. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U/M level or equivalent.

  College Transfer Applicants

  Diplomas and Certificates

  An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

  Degrees

  An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility. Applicants must have an overall minimum grade point average (GPA) of 65 per cent in the program. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.

  University Transfer Applicants

Approximately $1,900 - health clearance; Canadian Red Cross CPR – HCP, Standard First Aid; A.S.I.S.T. course; C.R.C.; Mask Fit testing; immunizations; transportation and parking (varies); ASI Predictor Test (preparation test for the Canadian Practical Nursing Registration Exam).
