Bachelor of Science - Nursing - Second Entry Preparation

Preparatory Semester

Program Code: NR011

Campus: North

Length: 1 semester

Humber College has a long-standing tradition of excellence in nursing education in Canada. Qualified graduates of the Bachelor of Science - Nursing – Second Entry Preparation program will be admitted into the Bachelor of Science - Nursing degree and be eligible to write the College of Nurses registration exam, NCLEX.

Our curriculum focuses on preparing the next generation of nurses who will provide high quality care for individuals, families and communities in primary and community health care, long-term care, rehabilitation, acute and complex continuing care settings. The program includes over 1400 hours of work-integrated learning where students will have the opportunity to put their nursing knowledge and skills to work in a supervised setting. Work integrated learning experiences will be diverse and cover a broad range of settings including community, schools, long-term care facilities and hospitals.  Humber’s theory and science courses provide students with both individual and group learning opportunities. In our simulation labs, students practice and improve their clinical reasoning and judgement as well as  interpersonal and technical nursing skills in a safe and active learning environment.

Admission to the Bachelor of Science - Nursing – Second Entry program is a two-step process:

  1. Students are admitted to a preparatory semester, offered from September to December, consisting of five courses – Psychology: Introduction, Statistics for Students of Biological Science, Human Anatomy, Pathophysiology 1 and Microbiology, as required based upon previous university education.
  1. After completion of each preparatory course with a minimum grade of 74 percent, students are admitted into the Bachelor of Science Nursing - Second Entry Program.

*Note however, that students who possess all of the preparatory courses at the university level from prior education and a minimum of 74 percent in each, may be admitted directly into the Bachelor of Science - Nursing - Second Entry program.

Humber is the only English speaking college in Ontario with access to an on-campus cadaver lab for nursing students. Combine that with small class sizes, leading-edge simulation labs, bioscience and anatomy labs, and extensive clinical work placement opportunities - Humber students have the competitive edge.

This program is not available to international applicants.
