In semesters in which they teach, the work of full time faculty is outlined by a document called the Standard Workload Formula or SWF. Unfortunately, it is common for faculty to not completely understand the various components of their SWFs or appreciate the significant impact it has on their workload. This despite the fact that they sign and agree to its contents.
The purpose of this workshop is to fully outline all aspects of a SWF. It will discuss the procedure that should be used by Academic Managers when they write SWFs, and examine each of the SWFs’ sections to ensure that faculty can determine their SWFs’ accuracy. Finally, it will explain the process that faculty should follow if they feel their SWFs do not properly represent their workload. SWFs impact the work of full time faculty on a daily basis, so properly understanding them is critical. Please bring your own SWF with you when you attend.
