The Teaching Effectiveness Certificate is designed for those interested in the field of teaching or private sector training. The courses within this certificate program provide participants with an opportunity to explore best practices in teaching and learning and to apply the skills learned in a safe environment with other classmates. The certificate is comprised of five individual courses that are designed to develop essential teaching competencies. the courses are delivered over twelve Saturdays (9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) or are available online. Upon successful completion of the five courses, participants receive a Certificate of Completion.
This Certificate has been accredited by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) - Educational Developers Caucus (EDC) of Canada to ensure quality in teaching and learning. For more information, please visit EDC Accreditation information.

Creating a positive learning environment is the cornerstone of effective teaching. This course examines effective teaching and learning practices and explores strategies to engage adult learners in a variety of diverse educational settings. The participants will explore strategies for the promotion and maintenance of positive physical, instructional, and psychological climates for learning. | DEV. 103: Preparing for Instruction | Preparing for instruction examines the importance of preparation and planning in a teaching and learning environment. This course introduces participants to the benefits of structured lesson plan design that reflects various domains and levels of learning. | DEV.104: Evaluation Techniques | Evaluation Techniques explores the various elements in designing and evaluating student assessments that align with course and learning outcomes. Participants will explore the rationale for selecting specific formal and informal strategies of assessment for/as/of learning. Techniques for giving effective feedback, and creating authentic and differentiated assessments will be examined. | DEV.105: Delivering Instruction | Delivering Instruction represents the culmination of the knowledge, skills, and abilities acquired throughout the Teaching Effectiveness Certificate. Active learning strategies and the differentiated instruction approach will be practiced experientially to assist participants in improving their teaching practice.
