Toronto, Ontario – Humber College’s network of educational partners for Walmart Canada’s AdvancED program now includes the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).

The Walmart Canada AdvancED education assistance program provides learning opportunities for Walmart associates and their eligible family members. As part of the program, Walmart Canada partnered with Humber to create the AdvancED network of educational partners that provides learning opportunities for eligible Walmart associates across Canada.

“As Walmart Canada’s lead national post-secondary partner, Humber is building a network of Canadian postsecondary institutions to connect associates with diverse and flexible programming available online or on campus,” said Chris Whitaker, president and CEO, Humber College. “We are proud to welcome SAIT to the AdvancED network and look forward to working together to expand the educational opportunities for associates across the country.”

Through the AdvancED program, all Walmart Canada full-time associates who attend an accredited Canadian college or university are eligible to receive a $2,500 tuition reimbursement per year, and an additional 20 per cent tuition reimbursement for courses taken at Humber or the AdvancED network of educational partners. As well, eligible family members of full-time Walmart associates and all permanent part-time associates can receive a 20 per cent tuition reimbursement for programs or courses they take at Humber or with AdvancED network partner post-secondary institutions.

“SAIT is focused on fostering enterprising collaborations with partners from around the globe to help students to shape the world as entrepreneurs, leaders and community builders,” said Dr. David Ross, president and CEO, SAIT. “Together with the educational partners of the AdvancED program, we will help bring additional opportunities to Walmart associates so they can upskill and further their careers.”

To assist associates in selecting the right options for upskilling, Humber, Collège Boréal, SAIT and future members of the AdvancED network will provide pre-enrolment, career and academic advising services. Through Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition processes, associates may also receive course credit for their on-the-job training and experiences, reducing the time it takes for associates to complete programs.

The AdvancED network of postsecondary institutions will offer programs and courses in both English and French. Collège Boréal was first to join the network and is the primary French language education provider.

“Since launching AdvancED in early 2019, we have experienced an increase of more than 300% in the number of Walmart associates and family members receiving support in furthering their development through post-secondary education,” said Susan Muigai, EVP of People and Corporate Affairs, Walmart Canada. “Lifelong learning aligns closely with our company’s values and we are proud that today’s announcement provides greater options and opportunities to our associates and their families.”

Associates can now access a wide range of Humber, Collège Boréal and SAIT programs and courses in-person and online. More information about the AdvancED program can be found at WalmartAdvancED.ca.
