Humber and Guelph-Humber’s journalism students officially have the mark of royalty.
Last month, they were awarded three Gold and Silver Crowns by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA). The recognition was for work on three magazines: Emerge/emergemagazine.ca, for which Guelph-Humber received the College Hybrid Magazines Gold Crown award.
Humber College’s two publications Convergence and Sweat received a College Magazine Gold Crown and Silver Crown, respectively.
Thirty-five awards were handed out to college publications at the 2016 College Media Convention in New York. In the 2014-15 academic year, nearly 1,200 newspapers, magazines, yearbooks and digital publications were eligible for award consideration.
The CSPA is an international student press association that brings together student journalists and faculty advisers through conferences, idea exchanges and award programs. Run by Columbia University, the Association offers annual competitions and awards for members, including the Crown Awards, two conventions and a week-long summer workshop at Columbia, plus publishing to support an e-zine and website.
