Advanced manufacturing at Barrett CTI

Humber College's new RapidSkills, Advanced Manufacturing Micro-credentials program is a timely addition to the college's offerings.

COVID-19 has disrupted the economy, the labour market and the lives of workers.

The program was designed for those who were interested in the industry, with potential to succeed, but without the necessary skills. It is needed now more than ever to help laid-off, at-risk and underutilized workers in the auto or advanced manufacturing sector transition to new roles and sectors.

A way to stand out

Micro-credentials help people upgrade their skills, re-learn crucial skills, or have a means of demonstrating their knowledge. Once completed, workers can share a digital badge with prospective employers. It can be displayed on an online resume, portfolio or website.

Humber College has collaborated with experts to build a course that will deliver results.

“Building off Humber’s longstanding relationship with the manufacturing sector, the new Advanced Manufacturing Micro-credential Program is a collaboration with employers and leading industry experts to prepare those unemployed and underemployed with the skills needed to secure a future in manufacturing,” said Nadia Desjardins, associate dean, Corporate Training Solutions.

The program can also strengthen the participants' employability by providing tools to help them be effective, efficient and adaptive to the changes experienced by the industry.

The micro-credentials include:

Technical skills

  • Mechatronics Control Systems

  • Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics

  • Electric Motors, Actuators, and Drives

  • Program Logic Controllers (PLCs)

  • Lean Manufacturing & Quality Control Systems

  • Advanced Manufacturing Project

Essential skills

  • Developing Resilience during Change

  • Communication with Influence

  • Critical thinking

The RapidSkills, Advanced Manufacturing Micro-credentials program is supported by funding from the Ontario government
