The Applied Arts Awards have become an international source of recognition of creative excellence for the past 25 years. The Canadian competition recognizes the creative work of professionals across the visual communications sector, including graphic designers, illustrators, photographers and more. The awards are an opportunity for creatives to get exposure as well as promote their work to the best in the industry as well as potential clients.

Each entry was evaluated and judged independently and scored based on technical excellence, creative merit as well as suitability for end use. This year Humber had six talented student award winners from the Advertising & Graphic Design, Film and Television Production, and Advertising Copywriting programs, all of whom will be receiving Applied Arts Awards and recognition in the Fall 2018 publication of the Students Awards annual. The award winning students are Dahin Rah, Dana Mevorach, Jordan Jackson, Austin Riswick, Geoff Baillie and Ian Dunlop.

“The Applied Arts awards represent hard work, dedication and most of all creative thinking,” says Bianca Dipietro, co-ordinator of the Graphic Design program at Humber. “The awards recognize students that push the limits and discover creative solutions that have not been done before. These awards show students that it is important to take school projects to the next level and create something that is show stopping and different.”

Jordan Jackson, a student in his final year in the Graphic Design program and winner of an Applied Arts award says, “I became aware of Applied Arts Magazine and their student competition shortly after entering the Graphic Design program at Humber and winning an Applied Arts award had been a goal of mine ever since I first picked up the publication. Just the thought of having my work featured in something physical that is read by thousands of creatives across Canada and internationally was unbelievable and receiving recognition of this kind is not only a boost of self-confidence but a reassurance that I have a future in this career.”
