A first-of-its-kind partnership between Humber College and the Canadian Public Relations Society will give students a leg up in the PR industry.
In September Eileen Tobey, the founder and CEO of beSPEAK Communications, joined the School of Media Studies as a Canadian Public Relations Society Senior Fellow in Residence.
The year-long pilot program gives senior industry leaders the opportunity to impart their knowledge and experience to guide students and faculty.
“This joint program gives practitioners a chance to give back to the profession,” explains Anne Marie Males, program coordinator and professor in the School of Media Studies. “We are really excited about the possibilities.”
Tobey brings more than 30 years of experience as a trusted strategic communications and marketing advisor to the role.
Students in the Public Relations program have already had the opportunity to speak with Tobey directly at a program-wide assembly, and several interviewed her for a course project. She visited four classes as a guest speaker in October, and is scheduled to present a keynote address next semester.
Next semester she will work closely with faculty to inform the content in the Emerging Issues course.
“We are thrilled to have Eileen with us,” says Males. “She is a tremendous resource for both students and faculty. Along with our advisory committee, she provides a valuable bridge between our programs and current practice.”
