Humber’s LGBTQ+ Resource Centres at North and Lakeshore Campus are hosting Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) events on November 20 and 21 to honour those who have died as a result of anti-transgender violence. The event also brings attention to the continued violence endured by the trans community.
This international day of action started after the murder of Rita Hester, who was killed in Alison, Massachusetts in 1998 because of her trans identity. A web project called “Remembering Our Dead” was later created by Gwendolyn Ann Smith, along with a candlelight vigil in San Francisco to initiate a larger discussion.
Since 2010, this international day of action has been observed in over 185 cities in more than 20 countries.
The event is open to all members of the Humber community.
