A Message from President Ann Marie Vaughan

Pursuing post-secondary education is a big decision, whether you’re about to finish high school, further your education or change careers. I vividly remember my first day of post-secondary education as the start of my personal journey - full of turns and curves along the way. Every student has their dreams, and these dreams are as unique as they are. Post-secondary is an exciting journey and I am so proud that you chose Humber to attain your goals.

What I have learned throughout my more than 30 years working in higher education is that there is no college system like the one in Ontario and there is no place like Humber.

Choosing a program that matches career and life goals is easy to do with Humber’s more than 180 program areas. Our polytechnic approach blends the practical and theoretical, providing students with career-relevant hands-on learning and experience, and enables the college to respond quickly to local needs and work with industry.

This is one of the college’s differentiators.

Another hallmark of Humber’s learning experience is our exceptional professors, technologists and technicians. They are award winners and subject matter experts with extensive industry connections. They are responsive and ready to help, and they are focused on student success.

Students have the opportunity to participate in work-integrated learning; gain valuable experience and connections with industry partners; and work and learn on applied research projects that tackle real-world industry problems and foster innovation and entrepreneurship skills.

Humber’s Centres of Innovation (COIs) embody the College’s polytechnic approach in action. The COIs provide an experiential learning environment for Humber students and prepare them to become tomorrow’s creative and strategic problem-solvers. The COIs connect students to businesses and community organizations empowering them to meet today’s economic and social challenges through innovation and collaboration.

There is good reason why Humber is ranked as the number two research college in Canada, according to Research Infosource Inc.

Our dynamic learning environment extends beyond the classroom. Our distinctive campuses include athletic and fitness facilities, open-access computer labs, specialized labs, libraries, art galleries and lots of places to study or relax.

We also offer top-notch student services including peer tutoring, health centres, and academic and personal counselling. Our varsity teams are among the best in the country.

The Humber community has more than 86,000 learners across three locations. Our students, faculty and staff contribute on campus and to our local communities. We are proud of our diversity, with international students studying at Humber from more than 130 countries. We offer a growing number of study-abroad options and work in partnership with national and internationally based institutions.

We are focused on creating healthy and inclusive learning and work environments and are committed to sustainability, equity, diversity and inclusion, and integrating Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing into our approaches.

Although Humber is one of the largest colleges in the country, it has a close-knit community feel and a welcoming environment that is engaging for all.

It is a community I am proud to be a part of and I hope you will be, too. I am looking forward to meeting many of you this fall.
