Goal 4

Developing strategic partnerships focused on intercultural exchanges and programming that seek to engage the Humber community in academic exchanges and collaboration

Humber continues to expand and enhance international partnerships and collaborations. Partnerships focus on high-level academic exchanges and provide opportunities for student and faculty exchanges and research collaborations.

Humber Celebrates 20 years with Ningbo University

In April, 70 Chinese students graduated from the Humber-Ningbo and Humber-Jimei programs. It was a special celebration as Humber College and Ningbo University celebrated the 20th anniversary of their joint partnership program.

Established in 1996, it is the college’s longest-standing international partnership. Humber entered a similar partnership with Jimei University in Xiamen in 2006.

Students live and learn in both countries, studying business practices and gaining exposure to international business and trade.

From Then Until Now

Over the past twenty years, Humber has grown the internationalization experience through ongoing staff and faculty exchanges. These cross-cultural experiences have enriched the teaching and learning of all of those who have participated in the program.

Built on a Platform of Success

Motivated by the success of the Humber-China program, Humber has continued to invest in long-standing sustainable partnerships. Today Humber has over 75 active partnerships with institutions around the globe.

  • Since 2003, Humber and National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (NKUHT) have provided Canadian and Taiwanese students the opportunity to complete a portion of their academic program abroad. Humber students complete semester four of their diploma program at NKUHT and students from NKUHT complete
  • the third year of their four-year degree at Humber.
  • Humber business students and students at IMC University of Applied Science Krems, Austria have participated in a semester exchange program since 2007.
  • Waterford Institute of Technology in Ireland and Humber's Business School have enjoyed faculty and student exchanges since 2009. Last year two students from the School of Social and Community Services broadened the partnership through an exchange semester in Criminal Justice.
  • Humber's Bachelor of Commerce in Fashion Management have been engaged in a semester abroad exchange with Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland since 2012 with students from across the institution participating in a summer program for credit for the last two years.
  • Humber has enjoyed student exchanges in Business and Media with Unitec Institute of Technology in Auckland, New Zealand beginning in 2009.
  • Humber signed an exchange agreement with Kansai Gaidai University in Japan in 2007 where students from both institutions enjoy the unique experience of study abroad on the other side of the world.
  • Since 2012 Humber has welcomed a number of students and faculty from JAMK University of Applied Science in Jyväskylä, Finland while Humber students have participated in a truly unique summer school for credit program in Finland.

Humber's Partnership with Parul, India Grows

In 2014 Humber and Parul Institute of Engineering and Technology (PIET) signed an agreement articulating pathways into Humber's business degrees. This year the partnership expanded to include pathways to programs in Applied Technology and summer programs on both Humber and Parul campuses.

Parul students participated in The Business School's Leadership Beyond Boundaries program, a 2-week program on the shores of Lake Ontario on Humber's Lakeshore campus. Humber students travelled to Gujarat, India to participate in a 4-week business and culture program for academic credit.
