Jason Powell RN., BScN., MScN., PhD.
Jason Powell is the Senior Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences & Wellness at Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, in Toronto. Jason has a Nursing Diploma from Humber College, a Baccalaureate in Nursing Science from Ryerson University, a Masters Degree in Nursing Science from D'Youville College in New York, and a Ph.D. with a focus on Nursing Education and Leadership from Western University in London, Ontario. Jason is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in adult acute care and spent more than 10 years working in large urban trauma centres (in Emergency Departments). He is distinctly aware of the psychological strain and injury nurses face when dealing with repetitive, ongoing, work related, acute, life and death situations.
Jason believes there is a significant role in pre-licensure education programs to prepare resilient professionals with requisite coping mechanisms and systems for career longevity and psychological well-being. Jason has published in peer-reviewed International Nursing Journals and has presented locally, nationally, and internationally on many topics including nursing and psychological injury, the multi-generational cohort in academia, clues to successful collaboration, leadership in academe, evidence informed practice, clinical simulation and curriculum-related topics. Before being appointed the Dean of Health Sciences in 2011, Jason held part time professor, full time professor, Program Coordinator and Chair positions in the College of Applied Arts and Technology sector.
