Record-breaking $176,000 raised for student support at the 2018 Humber Golf Classic

For six years running, the annual Humber Golf Classic has brought together donors, alumni, staff, faculty, industry partners and the community for a spirited round of golf in support of an important cause - our students. This year's event was no exception.

Despite stormy skies, more than $176,000 was raised for student awards and scholarships at the 6th annual Humber Golf Classic – our most successful year to date. Presented by Bird Construction, the event took place on Monday, June 4 at The Club at Bond Head. More than 200 golfers, sponsors and supporters were in attendance, picking up their clubs to support promising students in need.

One such student is Jeremy Logan, a 2nd-year radio broadcasting student, swing announcer for 96.9 Radio Humber and emcee for the night's dinner reception. As a recipient of the Phil Stone/Bell Media Radio Award and the Sirius Satellite Radio Scholarship, Logan is no stranger to the significant impact that donor-funded financial aid can have upon the experience of any Humber student. /p>

"Chasing a second career while also providing for a family was a daunting task," Logan shared. "However, thanks to the generous support of Humber donors like all of you in the room tonight, students like myself no longer have to be afraid that our choices were made in error. We can be confident that there are people out there who are cheering us on and enabling us to pursue our passions."

Chris Whitaker, President and CEO of Humber College, expressed his gratitude as he took to the mic during dinner: "With your generosity, you have become champions for our students through this cornerstone event. As we look ahead to all of the promising opportunities that lay in front of us, we will continue working to make a difference in our students’ lives, supporting them and ensuring their access to education – no matter what their financial situation may be."

With the funds from this year included, the Humber Golf Classic has now raised a total of more than $675,000 since launching in 2013.

As the event came to a close, Logan reiterated the critical role that donors play in the success of Humber students. "By supporting awards and scholarships through events such as this golf tournament, you are turning obstacles into opportunities. On behalf of my fellow students, thank you."
