Certificate of Achievement
Program Code: RND1
Important note:
Operating Room Nursing – RN courses have been revised to reflect the current Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) Standards, Guidelines, and Position Statements for Perioperative Registered Nurses.
The Operating Room - RN certificate program will include four theory and lab based courses over a total of eight weeks followed by a clinical placement of six additional weeks. As this is a competitive program, please note that an application process will be required (see details below).
Program Description:
The Operating Room Nursing certificate program is designed for registered nurses (RNs) seeking to advance their practice in perioperative nursing. This certificate is based on the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) competencies for perioperative nurses, current research, and adheres to the current Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) Standards, Guidelines, and Position Statements for Perioperative Registered Nurses.
After successful completion of the theory courses, students will move to the clinical placement. This will consist of 240 hours (6 weeks full time). The clinical placements are arranged with Humber College’s partner institutions across the Greater Toronto Area and are completed on a full-time basis without exception. Completion of the certificate includes the clinical placement where scrub skills are demonstrated at the novice level. This program academically prepares successful students for the Perioperative Certification Exam.
Application Process
Registration in this program is restricted to CNO registered nurses with Acute Care work experience or prior operating room nurse work experience (international). All applicants must also provide a letter of recommendation from an employer along with their updated resume. Successful candidates will be offered admission into the program through the program advisor.
The application process for the Fall term is now open.
