The online part-time Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL/TESL) certificate is a postgraduate 140-hour TESL Canada and TESL Ontario accredited program. It consists of 120 hours of course work plus 10 hours of English as a second language (ESL) classroom observation and 10 hours in a teaching practicum. The online part-time TESL program allows students to have the flexibility to complete the certificate at their own pace over two, three or four semesters. Courses can be taken in any order except for TSOL 115 which is the last course in the program. All observations and practicum teaching are completed in ESL classes at Humber College.

The certificate program is a hybrid program consisting of both in-class and online classes allowing students to take both at the same time. The certificate provides the necessary training for graduates to teach English as a foreign language (EFL) overseas and ESL in programs across Canada that do not require TESL Ontario or equivalent accreditation.

Upon successful completion of the TESOL Certificate, students can apply to TESL Canada for certification.

TSOL 111: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Methodology and TSOL 113: Pedagogical Grammar will be taught online using live sessions on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 pm to 9 pm EST.

Admission Requirements

• a Canadian bachelor’s degree or equivalent
• a copy of your resume
• an interview
• non-native speakers must demonstrate proficiency in the English language
• refer to the English Proficiency page for which tests and scores are acceptable. If applicants are interested in applying for the TESL Canada Certificate, please refer to their language requirements on tesl.ca.

Full-time Ontario Graduate Certificate program for part-time TESOL graduates

Humber’s part-time TESOL graduates can now fast-track towards a Humber Ontario Graduate Certificate in TESL with TESL Ontario accreditation. TESOL graduates must complete an online bridging course in September allowing them to jump directly into Semester 2 of Humber’s full-time postgraduate TESL program (January – April semester).
