The Longo Centre of Entrepreneurship (Longo CfE) has an exciting opportunity for you. Your task is to create a 2-minute video showcasing a business idea or a current business idea. Be Your Own Boss Video Pitch Competition is happening so make sure you bring your passion and creativity.

Pitching and selling are essential skills for Entrepreneurs, especially when launching a new business. In fact, a successful pitch can garner significant amounts of support and potential investors. This pitch is your time to shine and network with other like-minded Entrepreneurs.

How to Enter

To enter the contest, the participant must be a current Humber Student and a member of the Longo Centre for Entrepreneurship (Longo CfE). If you are not a current member, visit out membership page to sign up.

  1. Create a video (2 minutes or less) pitching your business idea in a creative, passionate yet informative, and clear manner.
    • The video must be a maximum of 2 minutes, including any introductions or use of logos/images.  
    • The video does not need to be professionally filmed. Using a mobile device or a platform like zoom will work. 
    • Only one video submission per participant is permitted. More than one video submission will disqualify the contestant. 
    • Upload the video to YouTube and be sure to set your video to the public so we may view it.
  2. Submit your video in the Be Your Own Boss (BYOB) Video Pitch Entry form.
    Submission Deadline Guidelines: 
    • The submission deadline is Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 12:00 pm (noon). Late entries will not be considered. 
    • Participants are highly encouraged to submit their entries 24 hours prior to the deadline. This timeframe allows the Longo CfE to connect with respective contestants if we are unable to view the submitted videos due to technical issues. 
    • Any videos not submitted 24 hours before the deadline, will be evaluated as is. 
  1. Attend the live virtual BYOB Video Pitch Event on Thursday, April 14th, 2022 from 4:30 pm-6:00 pm.
    • All participants must attend, to be eligible for prizes. 
    • This event night provides participants with the opportunity to network, collaborate and connect with one another. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place winners will be revealed and their videos will be showcased to all attendants.  
    • Attendees at the event will vote on audience choice winners and prizes will be awarded.  

Rules and Restrictions

  1. Once the video is submitted, the submission is final and the participant may not redo or resend their video. 
  2. The video must portray your business idea in a creative and clear manner. 
  3. The video cannot be longer than 2 minutes (including the intro and outro). Otherwise, the contestant will be disqualified. 
  4. Do not refer to the contest within your video. 
  5. Content must be appropriate. Videos must not be unlawful, harmful, or degrading. Any videos in violation will be removed from the contest.  
  6. Video entries must be created by the person who has uploaded and submitted them.  Any videos in violation will be removed from the contest.  Copyright rules in effect. 
  7. Winner(s) will be announced, and prizes will be rewarded at the Video Pitch Event night. 
  8. You must be in attendance at the Video Pitch Event in order to be chosen as a winner. 
  9. Contest rules and dates may be subject to change. 

Publicity & Social Media Advertising

  1. By participating, each participant grants Humber permission to use any content submitted for publicity purposes without payment or additional considerations, except where prohibited by law. 
  2. If the Longo CfE finds that any of the rules & restrictions have been violated, then we reserve the right to remove the participant from the contest. 

*International students can participate; however they will need to attend the virtual event on April 14th for a chance to win. If they win a prize, it will be sent to a local address, or they will receive their prize when they return to campus.
