Continuous Professional Learning Program

CWT supports the College of Early Childhood Educators mandatory Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) Program. The CPL program is recognized as a mechanism for Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) to meet their professional responsibilities and promote quality in the sector to facilitate the healthy development and wellbeing of young children in safe and supportive environments.

City Wide Training is deeply committed to the College of Early Childhood Education's Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. The beliefs and values outlined in the Code of Ethics are upheld in all aspects of planning and execution of training. Through working with the early learning community, Every Child Belongs City Wide Training fosters a deeper understanding of professionals’ responsibilities to all stakeholders including children, families, colleagues, Early Childhood Education profession, community, and the public.

Specific correlations between City Wide Training and Standards of Practice are outlined below.

City Wide Training embraces family and child-centered practices and aims at equipping registered early childhood educators with tools to facilitate caring and responsive relationships with children, families, and colleagues. Trainings help RECE’s to enhance their knowledge about current evidenced-based research related to children’s development and learning which further support them in creating positive and respectful interactions with children.

City Wide Training is committed to broadening the knowledge of child development theories for registered early childhood educators. Training provides participants with strategies to implement developmentally appropriate learning in order to equip them with the ability to provide the quality care for children in their programs. Training also reflects the understanding that all children are capable and unique learners and aims to give RECE’s the knowledge and the tools to design a curriculum with opportunities for all children to fully participate and engage in meaningful, play-based learning experiences.

City Wide Training strives to educate professionals about methods in observation, pedagogical documentation, and assessment to support children’s growth. Through information and shared knowledge in various CWT professional learning opportunities, the educators are encouraged to critically reflect and act upon on the approaches, communication methods, and strategies that they are implementing in their practice.

City Wide Training promotes supportive learning environments for educators and children. An underlying theme of all training is to develop sensitivity to children’s sense of belonging and overall wellbeing in order to create safe and inclusive indoor and outdoor environments.

City Wide Training is committed to providing training for RECEs that encourage physical, mental, emotional health and good nutrition. Through CWT’s professional learning the educators enhance their knowledge on the strategies that promote children’s independence in accessible and supportive environments with consistent supervision.

City Wide Training provides an avenue for RECEs to access professional resources to ensure that they are fully equipped with the knowledge to implement early intervention strategies in order for children and families to feel valued in the community to which they belong.

City Wide Training abides by, incorporates, and uses legislation to facilitate training. This is to ensure that RECEs understand the best current practice mandates and how to implement them within their programs. Training offered is updated to coordinate with any changes or additions to College of Early Childhood Educators’ policy and procedures.

CWT highly promotes and values effective leadership in any position, as it is vital for the promotion of quality care in all early learning and child care settings. Our training focuses on building respectful, nurturing and ethical learning environments for children, families, and colleagues. City Wide Training is dedicated to building professional knowledge and competence in a multitude of areas for Early Childhood Educators. Expanding the RECE’s understanding of current pedagogy related to early learning is at the forefront of trainings.

City Wide Training provides a pathway for educators to collaborate with colleagues and professionals. The workshop sessions provide time for professionals to share, discuss ideas and practices together, as well as a provide a platform for facilitation of community partnerships.

Training provide RECEs with opportunities to maintain professional growth and encourages them to engage in continuous professional learning through critical thinking and reflective practice.

City Wide Training acknowledges the significance of maintaining responsible professional roles and boundaries when working with children and families. Understanding role violations, potential abuse misconduct, and conflicts of interests are vital to maintaining professional responsibilities and obligations as a Registered Early Childhood Educator. CWT strives to establish professional development that supports RECEs in understanding their role as a professional with full awareness of responsibilities to declare the conflict of interest or dual relationships when they arise.

City Wide Training respects the privacy of children, families, and colleagues. Through training offered RECEs enhance their knowledge on applicable legislations and obligations related to the consent and confidentiality of information.

CWT conforms to the Child and Family Services Act and assists RECEs with keeping up to date with all policies and procedures related to the Early Learning and Care sector by providing various professionals learning opportunities.
