This course compares treatments and presentations of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Private Enterprise Standards as applied to complex topics, such as current and long-term liabilities, shareholders equity, earnings per share, pensions and leases. Students learn how to apply the generally accepted accounting principles to record transactions related to these topics and to prepare financial statements. In addition, students evaluate the theories underlying the current financial accounting principles and practices. This course will stress the use of the CPA Canada Handbook and its requirements with respect to disclosures and presentation.
