Those who work in the addictions and mental health field need to be lifelong learners who can locate, comprehend, and evaluate information from popular and scholarly sources and effectively communicate what they have learned to a variety of audiences. In this course, students develop their critical reading skills through paraphrasing, summarizing, and synthesizing; practice effective written communication through analyzing and producing persuasive evidence based texts; learn techniques for academic research through a multi-stage process capped by producing a final research paper; and practice knowledge translation skills by presenting their research in a creative format. Readings from a variety of sources focus on current issues in addictions and mental health.
