Building on the basic understanding of the history of typography gained in Typography 1, students continue to investigate the critical role of type in the process of visual communication. As in Typography 1, this course is offered in a combination lecture and lab format. Current typographic trends are analyzed in context with cultural influences and developments in other design disciplines. The industry standard Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, After Effects and Font Lab are used to execute projects focusing on the development of the students' awareness of effective and appropriate typography. Throughout the term, each student develops a critical understanding of typography based in theory and articulated through design projects, group work and written and spoken presentations.
