Neutral Mask

Course Code: AFSS 106

Academic Year: 2025-2026

In Neutral Mask, students will explore the relationship between impulse and expression and begin an investigation into how to incorporate voice and movement training into acting practice. The performer will develop a deeper awareness of their own body, their habits and choices and be able to alter that as needed as they play roles in characters bodies that are different from their own. Originally developed by mask and clown teacher, Jacques Lecoq, as a learning tool for actors, neutral mask work will help the students to develop emotional honesty and economy of movement, and to give them an inner core that is balanced, centered and focused while they express powerful, authentic emotions on stage.
