This course explores the history of animation, from its beginning to the present. Through a series of screenings and discussions, students trace the origins of various genres and styles of animation. From the days of the Magic Lantern to the present period of television, film, video and internet production, using both traditional and computer technology, students study the progression of the major studios as well as the works of important film animators. While studying the history of these films, students are also exposed to the many different types and styles of animation that have been produced over the last century.
