This course is an introduction to the study of sustainable design and its relationship to architecture and architectural technology practice. Students will study sustainable construction and green building design and delivery. They will explore green building foundations, including the green building movement, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building assessment, green building process and ecological design. Students will investigate green building systems, including sustainable sites, energy and atmosphere and building hydrologic systems. They will explore sustainable material selection and indoor air quality as well as discuss the commissioning, economics and future of green buildings. Through open discussion, students will be asked to develop critical positions and insights on the sustainable practices discussed.
