This course provides an introduction to the accounting and financial principles and practices used in evaluating and making decisions in a nonprofit cultural organization. It is taught from the General Management and Board perspectives. Including the basic skills of double entry bookkeeping and the preparation of financial statements relevant to cultural organizations, this course builds a foundation for the winter's advanced course which will include budgeting, cash flow, financial statement analysis and other managerial practices used in decision making. Over the two linked courses, students gain an understanding of the business and regulatory environment within which arts organizations operate.
