Course Code: BCLS 100
Academic Year: 2025-2026
This course introduces students to Black Studies through an exploration of topics that center on Black culture, political thought, anti-oppression movements, and Black feminist thought. With a focus on Black identity, students are challenged to examine the ways our thoughts about Blackness as both a concept and identity have been informed by popular culture in various mediums ranging from literature to digital platforms such as Black twitter. Through guided group discussions, analysis and observations, students will develop critical skills in problem solving and systems thinking that address the interconnectedness of race and racism and produce a final project that looks at envisioning and creating a more equitable and sustainable future.
