Course Code: BCPW 2503
Academic Year: 2025-2026
In this course, students learn how to conduct, evaluate, organize and synthesize research using a dual perspective-that of the professional and creative writer. Primary research strategies, such as the interview, are explored, as are best practices related to conducting secondary research. Students learn how to craft their research into clear, concise and accurate content (e.g., infographics and profiles). To discover how writers of fiction and creative nonfiction weave research into their works, students analyze short stories, personal essays and excerpts from novels, memoirs and screenplays. The techniques of revising, editing, fact checking and citing are also studied. Along the way, the importance of avoiding plagiarism is also emphasized.
