Through the analysis of various research-based practices, students will confront and write about issues related to visual storytelling and the development of media projects. Topics such as authenticity, ideology, identity, and taste will be explored in relation to how complex stories are conceptualized. Students will consider questions of authorship and positionality in both online and offline media and develop their original voice with an informed academic foundation. Students will have an opportunity to improve their research skills and reflect on their role in the production and consumption of media, as well as build a body of knowledge to ground their creative approaches in academia as well as in media culture.
