In this course, students will take a deeper dive into audio for cinema, focusing on this component of filmmaking in isolation. The course will explore sound as a practical and creative tool in storytelling, parsing out the five disciplines of audio in post-production: Sound Effects, Dialogue, ADR, Foley and Music. In learning how these aspects are executed on a technical level, students will investigate how each of these are used by filmmakers to deepen their storytelling and make more compelling and engaging narratives. In addition, students will learn best practices for recording location sound. Upon completion of the course, students will have a deeper understanding of how to employ sound as an artistic tool to enhance their own projects.
