Course Code: BIOT 203
Academic Year: 2025-2026
This course provides students with an introduction to the underlying mechanisms of the immune system and factors affecting its function. Students evaluate the constituents of the immune system, the similarities and differences between innate and acquired immunity, and describe the process of humoral and cell-mediated immunity, with emphasis towards understanding immune-related disorders and research-based immunotherapies. Students are exposed to the basis of integrating the science of immunology and biotechnology techniques to engineer synthetic or biological products to modulate immune responses. Student learning is complemented by incorporating basic techniques used within the field such as, Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), multiplex assays, immunoblotting, and immunohistochemistry.
