Course Code: BMED 2503
Academic Year: 2025-2026
This course introduces learners to the structure, physical properties, and reactivity of organic molecules. This theory and laboratory-based course explores key concepts within the field of organic chemistry including, nomenclature, chemical bonding, conformational analysis, stereochemistry, resonance, spectroscopy, chemical reactions, and reaction mechanisms of molecules containing the carbonyl group. Carbon-carbon bond forming strategies are extensively explored, as well as an introduction to polymers. Students develop and apply the skills required to design and predict the outcome of multistep reaction schemes for synthesizing target compounds.
