Issues and Sectors in International Development

The course will allow students to develop an in-depth understanding of the current development issues and trends in the world today. Discussion will include issues related to gender, climate change, indigenous persons, human rights, good governance, authentic partnerships and institutional capacity building. These issues will be explored against the backdrop of the key international development sectors including: health, education, food and nutrition, water and sanitation, shelter and humanitarian assistance. We will study each sector in relation to why it is important for development, how it is seen by the various international institutions and what the major issues are in delivering projects in this sector and in projects than are composed of more than one sectoral component.
