Social movements are an important way that everyday people and communities can work together to resist and oppose systems of power and oppression. This course will apply social movement theory while examining a range of historic and current social movements and counter movements that have impacted societal norms, laws and business practices. The objective is that students are able to understand what contributes to the rise, success and (sometimes) decline of social movements through critically evaluating the goals, strategies, and tactics movements have used to mobilize social movement participation and resources.
