This course examines foundations of the environmental justice movement, focusing on the interconnectedness of environmental conservation and the wellbeing of communities. Causes and impacts of globalization, lost biodiversity, food insecurity, climate change and pollution, especially on marginalized communities are examined. Case studies of successful grassroots environmental advocacy and sustainability initiatives are discussed. Students develop knowledge and skills to apply systems change theory and plan campaigns for nature conservation and healthy communities.
