Course Code: CJS 253
Academic Year: 2025-2026
This course examines a number of controversial issues now being debated in community and criminal justice circles. It is meant to equip students with the tools they need to find and critique information about, understand and participate in those debates. Grouped under the general theme of "Limits to Justice", topics focus on the constraints imposed by colonial, economic, race-based, gendered and heteropatriarchal violence as well as the violence of globalization. Debates around academic controversies will prepare students to apply what they have learned to interrogative questions. These will be fueled by recent news and will require students to generate possible solutions to developing and ongoing local and global issues.
