In this course learners explore the role of diagnostic testing in clinical research, with emphasis on participant safety and evaluation of efficacy. Various laboratory tests and imaging modalities and their associated applications are discussed, including the risks, limitations and ethical considerations for conducting tests for research purposes and collection of samples. An awareness of quality control, quality assurance, and proficiency testing are developed through an overview of statistical methods used to verify reported values and predictive values. Learners also gain practical experience evaluating laboratory results and imaging reports to guide trial-related decisions. Assignments and scenarios throughout the course, are based on clinical trial examples.
