In this course students examine and analyze various aspects of victimology such as intimate partner violence, child and youth victimization, sexual victimization, victimization by the criminal justice system, restorative justice, crime prevention, methods of data collection, and more. Criminological theories of victimization are analyzed and applied. There is a focus on the government's responsibility to support victims and an opportunity to investigate the effectiveness of this function. The experience of the victim is examined to help in understanding the challenges a victim faces as an individual and in their defined role within the Criminal Justice System.
