This course provides a comprehensive overview of the theoretical and philosophical reasoning of the penal system. Students in the advanced course explore the impacts of prison policies on inmates, staff, and the community. They apply risk assessment modelling in corrections, parole, and probation through case studies and statistical analysis. Furthermore, Policies related to prisons, rehabilitation, community corrections, recidivism, and other recent relevant topics will be explored, such as dealing with infectious diseases, mental health, data-driven librarianship, correctional healthcare, religious programs, and more. Preparing students to work in corrections is a vital goal of this course.
