This course introduces students to effective therapeutic program planning for children and youth with diverse needs and interests. Students will gain an understanding of what constitutes a therapeutic activity and have the opportunity of planning, conducting and experiencing activities of therapeutic value in class. The course will include an in-depth look at play, the importance of creativity, leadership and motivation as well as the ability to modify activities to meet the needs of diverse populations. Students will be introduced to a variety of therapeutic modalities including; art, puppetry, storytelling, sandtray, music, drama, and outdoor education. Looking at the therapeutic values and how the CYC can use these modalities as tools to affect change will be explored.
