This course will engage the Disability Justice Model by evoking an understanding of the role of the practitioner as a conduit to mediate the challenges that ableism perpetuates, assist young people in developing their own self-actualized identity, and enacting their own vision of how they want to be seen by their and the child and youth care community. This course will also provide skills for practitioners that will allow them to identify and challenge mainstream narratives that promote interventions focused on minimizing the appearance of disability, across work with children, youth, families, and community.
